WHAT WE BELIEVE

Falmouth Baptist Church Believes:

1. Faith Alone

We believe that a person is justified (made righteous) by faith alone. This means that Christ and his righteousness, is the lone instrument of justification and that this righteousness is only obtained through faith.

"Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness."

Genesis 15:6

"Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham."

Romans 4:16

"Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified."

Galatians 2:16

2. Grace Alone

We believe that our righteous standing before God is due to His act of grace and Jesus Christ work on the cross not because of ANY merit or work on our part.

"[God} who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. this grace was given to us by Jesus Christ before the beginning of time..."

2 Timothy 1:9

"It is by grace you have been saved through faith--this is not of yourselves but rather the gift of God."

Ephesians 2:8

3. Scripture Alone

We believe that all Scripture is the divinely inspired Word of God. We believe they are inerrant and they are supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct over the Christian and church.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

2 Timothy 3:16-17

"Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

2 Peter 1:20-21

4. By Christ Alone

We believe that the work of redemption, salvation, and forgiveness of sins is the work of Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ only.

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men..."

1 Timothy 2:5-6

"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Colossians 1:13-14

5. For the Glory of God Alone

We believe that all glory and honor is to God alone. That all of life is to be lived to the glory of God. The believer's life shall be lived under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and every activity the believer partakes glorifies God.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

1 Cor. 10:31

"If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."

1 Peter 4:11

"To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

Revelation 1:6
