***A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR***

July 1, 2020

To the Falmouth Baptist Church Family;

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is hard to believe we are now entering the last half of 2020. The first six months were filled with events that will be remembered for generations. Events that shook and tested our faith and reminded us what is truly important in life; church, family, relationships, and freedom. Events that interrupted those daily routines in which we found safety and security and drove us instead to seek our security and well-being in Christ. Because of the events we have experienced in the first half of 2020 most of us are now gripped with anxiety, trepidation and fear as we enter the last half of the year. Thus, it is so important we remember Paul’s exhortation to the Christians living in Corinth:

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

As of July 1, the Commonwealth of Virginia is in Phase 3 of the Covid-19 Virus recovery. That means churches can have a maximum attendance of 250 people. All other emergency orders remain in place. Each person will have their temperature taken when they arrive. While families may sit together, we do ask that worshippers sit every other pew and maintain a 6-foot separation. Linked is a reminder of the Governors’ policy FBC is adhering to regarding the wearing masks.

Thank you so much for your continued faithful financial giving to the church. I will continue teaching the weekly SS lesson each Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM. All you need is bring your Bible and join us on our Facebook page for this time of Bible study. I am so grateful for our church staff who is working in this difficult time to make our times of worship as “normal” as possible.

I pray God’s blessings on your family in the days to come.

Your Pastor,

Leslie Powers

Reminders:

  • There will be NO Sunday School, Children's Church, or Nursery Services.
  • We realize that not everyone will feel comfortable coming to the sanctuary, so worship will also continue to be streamed through Facebook and YouTube.
  • Effective as of May 29, as ordered by our Governor, masks are now mandatory in all public buildings, including our sanctuary. The only exception are children under ten, and those people with a medical condition.
  • The consequence for not following the governors order is not clear. At one point he stated publicly violating the order will not be a criminal offense, but in a written order indicates a violation would be a Class One Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a $2500 fine.
  • Guidelines for Masks in public places.
  • For those coming to the sanctuary, please refer to the folliowing guidelines.

    * The main and rear entrances will open at 10:45 am.

    * Each person entering the sanctuary will have their temperature taken.

    * Please keep every other pew open, as well as maintain a six-foot separation from non-family members.

    * Offering plates will be at each entrance to avoid having to pass them during service.

    * There will be no bulletin and no hymnals will be used.

    * Because our sanctuary seats 350 people, we can only allow 175 people (50% capacity) to gather for worship.

    * Concerning the governor's mandate on wearing masks, please refer to the following document.

Stay safe, and we look forward to worshipping with you each Sunday morning.

    **************************

The church office will remain closed until further notice. However, Wayne Mills, Dolly and our pastor will be at church on Wednesday mornings, and various times over the weekend, to collect the mail, and to deposit and write checks. This will be done to encourage FBC members to continue mailing their tithes and offerings to the church. Other giving options are: Online Giving, giving by text, and giving through the "Abundant Giving" app. Click here for more information. We thank you for your continued generous giving, as this is critical to the church's financial stability.

During this unsettling time it will be important for our deacons to keep in touch with their families on a regular basis to keep the FBC family aware of ministry needs.
